With kitchens in both the basement and on the ground floor, finding a suitable route for the ductwork and associated plant was definitely not easy. The system that we subsequently designed and installed is a testament to our ability to create a solution where there doesn’t appear to be one. Starting from the kitchen in the basement, we fabricated bespoke ductwork that follows the line of one of the corridors – making sure that the corridor itself remains useable – before taking it up, via a fire rated duct, through an existing light well. We created similar ductwork for the ground floor kitchen, and this also exits via the light well, whereafter both sections run side-by-side, before going up the exterior of the building and connecting to the main plant which is situated on the roof – the only place it could go! We even arranged the crane hire and associated permits to get it all up there.
